Burried at the Cypress Hills Veterans Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY John died from the difficulties associated with the horrors of the American Civil War. Disease and dysentary were among the leading killers next to combat casualties. He was taken to Davids Island in NY Bay in August of 1862 where he could no longer withstand the onslaught of disease a death no one ever anticipated. A farmer from the town of Rockland, Sullivan County, he enlisted in October of 1861 along with his
brother Thomas C. 56th NYV and Thomas' son Charles C. ( 143rd NY )
