Hudson Valley New York - Civil War Volunteers
Hello- I'm new to this site. My 2X GF was Burton Tompkins. He was in the 20th NYM (3Mos), and then joined the 4th NY Heavy Artillery with his brother George. He was wounded at Petersburg in June 1864 and transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps. He moved around after the war, going as har as Nebraska before returning to the Catskills and living until 1916. I am trying to find a photo of him- maybe from his GAR days. I believe he was in the Baldwin Post in Hunter. I ran across this photo on Ebay and can't elp wondering if he and George are staring back at me! Anyone know if the Baldwin Post had any member photos and what might have happened to them? Our local post (Westfield MA) had a very nice walnut cabinet with photos of the members- it is now in our local museum. Thanks, Frank Tompkins (PS- my Great Grandfather was in the SUV in Beacon, NY)
